Now that we are more than halfway through 2021 and multiple COVID-19 vaccines are authorized and recommended by the CDC, we are able to get a good idea about how widespread and effective COVID vaccine distribution has been. This article provides an overview of the factors surrounding COVID vaccine distribution and answers key questions surrounding the topic, such as:
What is the current level of COVID vaccine distribution across the U.S.?
How many people have been vaccinated?
Where can I find a reliable vaccine tracker to stay up-to-date on current COVID vaccination data?
COVID Vaccine Distribution vs. COVID Vaccine Administration
When looking at COVID vaccine distribution, it’s important to note the distinction between vaccine distribution and vaccine administration. According to the CDC:
Distribution
refers to the number of doses that a state has received.
Administration
refers to the number of doses that a state has given to its residents.
How Many People Have Been Vaccinated?
The CDC provides an overview of nationwide COVID vaccination statistics. As of July 2021, more than 390 million doses have been distributed and roughly 340 million doses have been administered.
However, since some vaccines require two doses, as of July 2021, slightly more than 160 million individuals are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which translates to nearly 50% of the population.
