Curative Insurance Company took to the streets of Austin as an official sponsor of the Texas Tribune Festival, which ran from September 22-24, 2022. We were so excited to meet our Austin neighbors and patients from near and far as we engaged in interesting and thought-provoking discussions on the future, specifically the future of health care.
New to Austin: Curative is bringing its transformational insurance plan to communities across the United States, starting in Austin, Texas. We were honored to sponsor the Texas Tribune Festival to show our commitment to the Austin Community.
On day two of the festival, we hosted “One-on-One with Walter Isaacson,” the best-selling biographer who wrote about Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, Steve Jobs, and Elon Musk. Curative’s signs flanked the stage at this talk, and every attendee left with a free Curative notebook. As Curative’s work seeks to break barriers in healthcare, we were excited to host a historian who studies groundbreaking and revolutionary leaders.

On the festival’s final day, our Curative tent popped up in front of 900 Congress, the site of the new Curative Commons, slated to open in 2023. In the morning, we offered complimentary refreshments from local Austin vendors, Houndstooth Coffee and Batch Kolaches. Throughout the day, we hosted a number of guest speakers at our tent, who focused on a wide range of topics related to health. The speakers included:
John Kasich: “State of Mind: After the shooting in Uvalde, Texas is refocused on mental health”
Celine Gounder, Peter Hotez, Evan Smith: “The Next Pandemic: Are we prepared for another mental health emergency?”
Julia Johnson, Mini Kahlon, Elena Marks, Karen Brooks Harper: “Will we ever get a handle on rising health care costs?”
Vivek Murthy: “The U.S. Surgeon General on Restoring the Nation’s Health.”
Andrea Caracostis, Carlos Cardenas, Shawn Thierry, Ashley Lopez: “What’s to blame for disparities in health outcomes in communities of color?”

In addition to these discussions on health, we hosted a number of activities and opportunities to get to know Curative as we work to reimagine healthcare.
In the afternoon, we hosted free preventative healthcare screenings with affiliated medical professionals who checked blood pressure and cholesterol and sent everyone home with personalized whole health tips to follow up with their primary care providers. We wanted to provide a snapshot of a person’s health, leaving everyone better informed to make healthcare decisions.

We also hosted a Healthy Happy Hour featuring alcohol-free palomas, hop water, and kombucha. It was a nice reprieve from the afternoon Austin heat!
