Who is Curative?

Curative is a health insurance company making health care transparent, accessible, and comprehensive. We are now focused on the whole person's well-being: providing expanded health care and wellness services while also streamlining access to preventative care. We are setting out to change health care in the United States and fundamentally re-designing the way that patients interact with their health care and health insurance. Our model delivers health care by investing in patient preventive health from the start, reducing the barriers to entry to traditionally complex care networks and eliminating the concern of unexpected medical bills. Curative currently serves Austin, TX and will expand throughout Texas in 2023.

Curative was best known for it’s response in March 2020 to the urgent need for COVID-19 testing, ultimately developing a network of thousands of testing sites across over 40 states and three CLIA-certified, high-complexity laboratories. Curative’s patient-facing services, health care facilities, integrated supply chain, and labs are part of a large platform we've built from the ground up that has allowed us to grow quickly and more efficiently than other health care companies.

Why is the Curative health plan better than other insurance options?

Curative is a fully-insured PPO plan offered to employers with 51+ employees in the Austin area. The plan offers whole-person, transparent care with no copay, no deductible, no out-of-pocket for in-network, including preferred Rx, for those that complete a baseline visit in the first 120 days. The plan has a high-quality, broad local provider network, including many of the doctors and hospitals you already know and use. Members receive 24/7, 365 access directly to physicians via telemedicine, health navigation, and member support. Additionally, plan participants will receive exclusive access to Curative Commons, a next-generation health and wellness center. We can’t wait to reimagine health care.

What is Curative’s Baseline Visit and why should I get one?

To get the most out of your membership, every member is encouraged to participate in a Baseline Visit that can be used to tailor an individualized, plan for finding services from Curative and Network Providers. The Baseline Visit can help identify areas of opportunity early on and help you get connected with resources offered by Curative. Here’s more information on the Baseline Visit. By completing your Baseline Visit, you will receive the full benefit of $0 copays and deductibles for most in-network items and services as long as you stay in-network.

The individualized attention from the Baseline Visit focuses on your complete well-being and how to get help from your health plan’s benefits and resources. The Baseline Visit is with a Curative Clinician to onboard you to the Curative health plan, understand your health goals, and work with you to meet your current and future health needs. Rest assured - this visit is to support your overall well-being, and will not impact your coverage other than ensuring you have $0 copays and $0 deductibles.

What happens if covered members do not receive a Baseline Visit within 120 days after enrollment?

We encourage all members to complete their Baseline Visit. However, if covered members do not complete their Baseline Visit within 120 days after enrollment, they will be responsible for relevant copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs as outlined in the summary of benefits.

Does Curative cover preventive services?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We believe preventive care is a crucial part of overall health and offer preventative services as detailed in our benefits booklet and aligned with the United States Preventative Health Services Task Force. Preventive care helps detect or prevent serious diseases and medical problems before they can become major. Annual check-ups, immunizations, as well as certain tests and screenings, are a few examples of preventive care. This may also be called routine care.

How much are copays, deductibles, and coinsurance with Curative's health plan?

GOOD NEWS - There are no copays, deductibles, or out-of-pocket costs for most in-network items and services if the Baseline Visit is completed within the first 120 days after enrollment. Does Curative’s health plan cover mental health services?

Curative emphasizes the importance of mental health alongside physical health in total well-being. We have an extensive network of behavioral health therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists available for members, as well as coverage for many behavioral care medications on our preferred drugs list. Does Curative require prior authorization?

Prior authorization is a utilization management process used by health insurance companies in the United States to determine if they will cover a prescribed procedure, service, or medication. But don’t worry — your in-network health care provider will check with Curative to determine if you need a prior authorization for certain procedures, prescriptions, and tests.

Can I use any pharmacy to fill or refill my prescription?

While you are able to fill your prescription at any licensed pharmacy, you can maximize your coverage by staying in-network. If you use an in-network pharmacy, you will pay $0 for preferred drugs and covered services and a fixed copay for non-preferred drugs and covered services. If you use a pharmacy that is not in-network, you will be subject to paying out-of-pocket until you reach your deductible, and then a 50% coinsurance will apply.

What is a preferred drug? What is a non-preferred drug?

Preferred drugs are selected by the P&T committee that are deemed safe, effective, and low cost. Our formulary offers preferred drugs to treat most diseases.

Non-preferred drugs may also be effective, but the P&T committee has found other options to be more beneficial.

What is a generic drug? What is a brand name drug?

A generic drug is a medication created to be the same as an already marketed brand-name drug in dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality, performance characteristics, and intended use.

A brand name is a drug sold by a drug company under a specific name or trademark and that is protected by a patent. Brand name drugs may be available by prescription or over the counter.

What is a specialty drug? What is a biosimilar drug?

Specialty drugs are high-cost medications used to treat complex conditions such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis. Specialty drugs may require special handling and administration.

A biosimilar is a biological product that is very similar to and has no meaningful differences from an already existing medication.

What are the pickup and delivery options for medications?

We’re excited to announce that delivery and mailed drugs will be available at no cost from Curative Pharmacy in Austin. From our Austin pharmacy, we offer same-day or next day delivery for prescriptions for members in Austin. Our partner H-E-B also offers free delivery for Curative members.

Are diabetic supplies covered?

Are insulins covered?

Accepted Answer

Curative is able to offer preferred insulin products at $0 copays. Copays for non-preferred insulin products are capped at $25 per 30 day supply.
