Who is Curative?

Curative is a health insurance company making health care transparent, accessible, and comprehensive.

Co-founded by CEO Fred Turner and powered by a team of world-leading doctors, scientists, engineers, and health industry experts, Curative responded in March 2020 to the urgent need for COVID-19 testing, ultimately developing a network of thousands of testing sites across over 40 states and three CLIA-certified, high-complexity laboratories. As a result, Curative and its managed medical entities provided over 30 million COVID-19 tests and over 2 million COVID-19 vaccines.

Curative’s patient-facing services, health care facilities, integrated supply chain, and labs are part of a large platform we've built from the ground up that has allowed us to grow quickly and more efficiently than other health care companies. As a result, we were one of the first companies to respond to the pandemic providing COVID-19 testing at scale across the United States.

We are now implementing a new model of comprehensive health care delivery focused on the whole person's well-being: providing expanded health care and wellness services while also streamlining access to preventative care. We are setting out to change health care in the United States and fundamentally re-designing the way that patients interact with their health care and health insurance. By building a connected platform for managing the health of our patients, we believe that we can deliver a better health care experience at a lower cost and with better outcomes so that our members can focus on getting and staying well. Our model delivers health care by investing in patient preventive health from the start, reducing the barriers to entry to traditionally complex care networks and eliminating the concern of unexpected medical bills. Curative launched its first members-only health care offering in Austin, January 2023.

What is the health insurance plan offered by Curative?

Curative is a fully-insured PPO plan offered to employers with 51+ employees. The plan offers whole-person, transparent care with no copay, no deductible, no out-of-pocket for in-network services, including preferred drugs, for those that complete a Baseline Visit after the first 120 days of enrollment. The plan has a high-quality, local provider network, including many of the doctors and hospitals your employees already know and use. Members receive 24/7, 365 access directly to physicians via telemedicine, health navigation, and member support.

Plan participants will receive exclusive access to Curative Commons, a next-generation health and wellness center opening in downtown Austin in 2023.

Is my company eligible to offer a health insurance plan from Curative?

We hope to work with you to transform your employees’ health care experience. Currently, Curative is offering our health plan to companies with at least 51+ employees (large group) and who employ individuals working or living in Austin. Stay tuned - we will be in San Antonio, and the rest of Texas in 2023. We are also working on expanding to other regions in the near future. Brokers will be kept in the loop as soon as we have additional geographies.

Do you cover dependents, including dependents outside the service area?

At Curative, we want the whole family to experience stress-free, comprehensive health care. Dependents are eligible for coverage within the service area. Dependents outside of the service area are eligible for emergency services at in-network coverage and all other services at out-of-network coverage.

What perks does Curative have for employees?

$0 Copay and $0 Deductibles: For all members who complete their Baseline Visit within 120 days after enrollment and visit in-network providers. We’re removing unexpected costs so you can focus on what matters: your health.

Baseline Visit: We get members off to a strong start with a Baseline Visit that will be used to provide members with information to help them understand their current health and potential risks, and offer them services or resources through the Curative health plan.

Curative Commons: Curative members get exclusive access to the Curative Commons, a next-generation health and wellness center located in the heart of downtown Austin (900 Congress Avenue) with medical, wellness, community and fitness resources. Members can complete their Baseline Visit here.

24/7, 365 Virtual Urgent Care: We’re here for you, around the clock. Members get 24/7 telemedicine visits with waits at 10 minutes or less.

Health Management Programs: Curative is also developing a series of programs to help members reach individual goals, whether that’s healthy pregnancy, diabetes, weight management, or other health needs.

Curative Pharmacy: Curative’s preferred drug list covers many popular generic, brand name, specialty, and over-the-counter drugs. Members that use an in-network pharmacy will pay $0 for preferred drugs and a small copay for non-preferred drugs. This means that most of your members’ needs can be covered with $0 copays and deductibles. We’re also excited to announce that delivery services will be available from in-network pharmacies including Curative’s own pharmacy in Austin and H-E-B Pharmacies. You can always check with our in-network pharmacies to understand their hours as well as pickup and delivery options.

Can I email enrollment files to the plan?

Employers can utilize their personalized enrollment system to keep their employee information up-to-date. You can work with your personal Account Manager to find the best method to transmit enrollment information.

We know how important it is to get coverage as soon as possible. We follow employers’ guidance to determine when coverage will become available. Typically, enrollment can be completed within two weeks.

How are claims handled for employees with more than one health insurance plan?

We can work with employees’ unique health insurance situations. With more than one plan, we coordinate benefits according to rules of the contract and Coordination of Benefits document.

Most times, out-of-network providers will file a claim on behalf of the member. However, if any issue exists, an additional claim needs to be filed, or if an out-of-network provider does not submit the claim directly to Curative, please call customer service at 855-428-7284. In-network claims do not need to be filed.
